Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

MLD is performed by a therapist who specializes in the treatment of lymphedema.  Your therapist will use a gentle hands-on technique that is slow, rhythmical and light.  This special skin technique should never be painful and should allow the patient to relax during treatment.  The purpose of MLD is to stimulate the activity of lymphatic vessels and assist in the movement of lymph fluid away from the involved area.  Patients typically require a series of MLD treatments to allow for decreased swelling of the affected area.
